Proud great-grandmother to Chelsea Covert.  She will be missed by her Heron, Dowling, Doyle,Macken and McGloin nieces and nephews. Winnie completed school, and went on to study hairdressing. While travelling to work by bus in the late 1940s, a handsome ticket checker struck up a conversation with Winnie. This conversation led to a date, and blossomed into a beautiful romance. John left both the country and girl that he loved in 1950, to pursue a better life in Canada. John travelled extensively through Canada for six years, securing work where he could, attempting to save up money to marry his love, and relocate them to Canada. John and Winnie were married in Clontarf Ireland in 1956, and settled in Sault Ste. Marie, where their three children were born and raised. David (1957) Karen (1960) and Sean (1962). Times were not always good, as John was a construction worker (who thought every day was St. Patrick’s Day) who had to leave home for extended periods of time to secure work. Winnie was forever the optimist, and always looked at the bright side of life, even during the most difficult times. Winnie will be remembered for her stories she loved to share, her beautiful smile, and kind and compassionate demeanor.  She was an open and accepting person who was easily marveled by different people and different cultures.  She was loved meeting new people and making new friends. Winnie always wore her heart on her sleeve; you never had to guess what she was thinking….in true Irish form, she was never afraid to speak what was on her mind. The family would like to extend special thanks to the dedicated and loving staff at the FJ Davey Home Apple Orchard 1st floor especially Tracy, Christine, Pam, Kathy, Mindy, Jana and Sadie Many thanks to the Roger and Richard and the staff of Savoy's Jewellers.
