Passed away on February 6th, 2016 in Blind River, surrounded by family and friends. Don will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Anne Maureen (nee Miller). Beloved father of four daughters: Mary (Steve Doonan); Anne Slater (Bill); Elizabeth (Katherine Brittain) and the late Allison Dawn. Proud “Papa” of Kyle, Cameron and Graham Slater, Clare and Rachel Brittain. Fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Janice Cameron ( Jim ) and nieces, nephews, family and friends.  Don was born on September 26th, 1941 in Blind River, to his parents, the late Roy and Margaret (nee Gray) Martin.  He grew up with his older brother Robert (Joan), and younger brother Douglas (Joanne).  After attending Waterloo Lutheran University and the University of Toronto, he went on to have a 40 year career as teacher, vice-principal and finally principal at W.C. Eaket Secondary School.  Don was a passionate Christian and a talented musician. Anyone who encountered his particular style of questioning knew his deep interest in people.  He had a special gift of finding the little and big ways that made people around him feel special, welcome and important.  He was an integral member of his church and served on the Board of Directors of Galilean Bible Camp for over 40 years. Don was a well known personality in the community and an active member of it.  He was a compassionate, caring and greatly respected husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many.  Visitation will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 5 White Road, Blind River, Ontario on Wednesday February 10th 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A service in celebration of Don’s life will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Thursday, February 11th, 2016 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the close of the service.  A private service of interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery at a future date.  In memoriam donations to Immanuel Baptist Church or One Hope Canada would be appreciated by his family.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home, Blind River, Ontario.  www.menardfh.com
