August 8, 1941 – July 18, 2018 - It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Jim at his Waterloo home, on July 18, 2018, at the age of 76.

He is predeceased by his loving wife Patricia of 52 years, his father Lloyd, and his mother Pearl.  Beloved Father of James and Kimberley, Mark and Tammy of Waterloo.  Devoted Grandfather to Aaron, Connor, Evan and Meaghan.  Jim will be sadly missed by his brother David (wife MaryLou) sisters Joan (d. Bill), Pat (husband Luke) and Sue (d. Frank), as well as his many nieces and nephews and a great network of friends.

In his working life, Jim was a dedicated employee having worked for several banking institutions before joining Mannesmann Tube (later Algoma Steel/Essar Steel) where he worked until his retirement.  He had many and varied interests outside of work and was a talented woodworker. He devoted many hours to making toys for children at the Grand River Cancer Centre. He had recently taken and active role on the resident’s council at the Court at Laurelwood.  In his life in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, he enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends, sharing laughs and campfire songs.

In their 15 years in Waterloo, Dad and Mom were actively involved in their grandchildren's lives.  If there was an event happening, and one of the kids was involved, they were there.  Hockey, baseball, football, soccer, water polo, curling, rugby games, dance and music recitals, Christmas concerts, graduations to name just a few.  They were there for every piece of birthday cake, every graduation, every holiday and every other special dinner.  Our children's lives were filled with the special love that can only come from a grandparent.  Their lives were enriched immeasurably and in ways that may not be obvious - even to them.

Cremation has taken place.  At Jim’s request there will be no formal service.  A celebration of his life will take place from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Columbus Conference Centre, 145 Dearborn Place, Waterloo, ON.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Mary’s Cardiac Rehab Centre, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

You left us too soon.  Goodbyes are not forever.  Goodbyes are not the end.  They simply mean we’ll miss you, until we meet again.
