The angels gathered to carry our mother to heaven today - January 17, 2020 to begin a new journey with the love of her life James Sr. (deceased January 29, 2003)

A prayer service was held at the F.J. Davey Home to honour the life and legacy of our 92-year-old mother and grandmother.  We had the opportunity to bid our final farewell and then waited for the Lord to accept Mom through the Gates of Heaven.

Mom married Dad in October 1947 - and celebrated a long and happy marriage of 56 years.  Eleven children were born of their marriage - James Jr. (Susan); Brian; Michael; Karen (Larry); Shelley (late Bill); David (Kerry); Patrick; Philip (Pam); Maureen (Paul); Francis (Aimee); and the late Mary (Infant).

She was blessed with 25 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren - traditional Christmas Eve celebrations for her little ones will always be fondly remembered.
Mom’s early years were spent raising her children in Hamilton, ON - we particularly remember Norfolk Avenue.   In 1964 mom and dad decided that they would move their family to Sault Ste. Marie.   We all  nestled into a home in the “P Patch” and our young family had a student in almost every grade in the classrooms of St. Bernadette’s School.

Daughter of Mary Adeline and Joseph Edwards; Sister of the late Frank and Muriel Edwards; late Helen and Dick Wirth and the late Patricia and Herb Hohn; and  “Aunt Kay” to many nieces and nephews (particularly in Southern Ontario).
Mom was just a wonderful mother - plain and simple.   Her entire life was dedicated to the well being of her husband and her children.  Her joy was in raising a large family which took every ounce of her energy and attention and every meal was planned with perfect proportion - up to and including dessert.   Her special recipes will be handed down to the next generations of the Mackan family.

Our family is especially appreciative of the staff of the Apple 2, at the Davey Home where mom has resided for the past four years.   Thank you Krista, Sandra and Taylor and support staff  for your unwavering support and care of our Mother.   The Palliative Team in Cedar 2  were so compassionate to us in Mom’s final days and hours and we thank you for taking the journey with us to Mom’s final rest.

Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home, 492 Wellington Street, East, Sault Ste. Marie, ON.  Tuesday, January 21, 2020 - visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon - Mass to follow at Precious Blood Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. - Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial Donations will be accepted on Mom’s behalf to the F.J. Davey Home and the Alzheimer’s Society (Sault Ste. Marie Chapter).

Dear Mom - Know that the angels that carried you to heaven, have a new angel in their midst...
