It is with great sadness that the family of John Alasdair MacDonald announce his passing after a long battle with cancer, on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the age of 87.

‘Al’ will be lovingly missed by his wife of 30 years, Margaret (nee Maltais), and his daughters, Nicole (nee Bouchard) and her husband Darryl, and Elizabeth (nee Bouchard). Al will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Jacob and Amelie, and his extended family here and in Texas. Al was predeceased by his
parents Jessie (Sinead) and Donald, and his sister Mary Fullerton (nee MacDonald).  Survived by his sister-in-laws Carolyn Welch (Gary), Donna Parliament, Louise Edwards and Janine Brodie (Michael) and many nieces and nephews.

Al worked at the Forest Pest Management Institute (now Great Lakes Forestry Centre) in Sault Ste Marie, ON for a great many years, and was immensely proud of his life's work and the colleagues he made there. A nature buff, Al was very fond of the wilderness, canoeing, fishing and studying history. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Friends are invited to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Funeral Home (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522) on Friday June 26, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (limit of 40 people to enter the funeral home at a time).  Funeral Service in the Chapel (maximum 40 people) on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. Trevor Scarfone officiating.  Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (maximum 50 people).  Memorial donations made to St. Vincent DePaul Elliot Lake or the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen would be appreciated by the family.  The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr’s Wannan and Linford, and all of the health care staff who cared for Al in his last few months. Special thanks to Carolyn and Gary Welch for all of their love and support.
