Elva was born in 1924, on the family farm near Livingston Creek, just outside of Thessalon Ontario. As a young woman, she moved to Sault Ste. Marie where she became a Wife, Homemaker and Mom. She was a long-time member of Central United Church where she spent many happy years as a member of her Women’s Unit contributing to the well-being of her church. She loved when people simply “dropped into” her home for a visit as many of her friends and family often did. Fresh homemade baking and a cup of tea or coffee were always readily available as Elva warmly welcomed her guests and the joy they brought into her life.
In 2013, she joined Linda and Bob in their move from Sault Ste. Marie to Guelph’s Village by the Arboretum to be in close proximity to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her last two years were spent at Stone Lodge Retirement home in Guelph, where she had wonderful caregivers and made many new friends. During her final months, Hospital, Rehab and Palliative Care staff always referred to her as their patient who never complained.
Elva loved sports and enjoyed many hours of entertainment watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, curling, tennis, horse jumping and the Olympics.
Elva is fondly remembered as a loving lady and was warmly loved in return. She will be greatly missed by all. Family and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 a.m. interment to be held at Greenwood Cemetery, on Wednesday October 16th.
Memorial donations, in Elva’s name, to a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
