With heavy hearts we announce that Audrey passed away peacefully at home in her favourite chair, with her husband at her side, on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the young age of 78 years. Much loved wife of Wayne for 58 years. Loving mother of Kevin (Louise) and Craig (Laurie), adoring Baba of Aidan and Ben. Predeceased by parents Annie and Bill Smith and parents-in-law Evelyn and Percy Lee.  Dear sister of the late Fred Smith (Linda), late Bonnie Dunne (Lynn), Wanda Taillefer (Paul) and Wendy Thomlinson (Charlie). Sister-in-law of Pat Knight (late Joe), Gary, and the late Darwin (Diane). Beloved aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Those who best knew Audrey loved her welcoming smile and knew her to be a very kind and caring person. Over the years, as her health deteriorated, she persevered and always remained positive. Audrey was a proud Canadian who enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and abroad, and one who was especially proud of her origins in Goulais River. Through her travelling she met and retained new friendships everywhere she went. She has many close friends too numerous to mention, but she will be particularly missed by those who volunteer every Thursday at the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church making cabbage rolls and pierogies. As well as travelling and volunteering, Audrey loved to spend her time at their camp on Haviland Bay and enjoyed gardening, her hummingbirds, and get-togethers with the nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; the children were a joy to her. Among Audrey’s last words were “I love everyone I know”.

At Audrey’s request, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Friday, November 23, 2018 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church at 1:00 p.m. with Father Jaroslaw Lazoryk officiating. Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, SAH Renal Dialysis Care Fund or the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank Dr. R. Cusimano and Dr. Phyllis Billia, her cardiologists, and their staff at the Toronto General Hospital, especially Lisa Rhude. Locally, Audrey received exceptional care from Doctors Bragaglia, Mathew, Berry, Shaffi, DiFabbi, Ghose and Apostle. Special thanks to the Sault Area Hospital Renal and general Nursing staff, the Bayshore Nursing staff (Dawn and Cindy), Laurie Rose from the Group Health Centre, as well as the personal support workers who attended to her daily needs.

Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
