Passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021, after a brief illness. She is survived by Tim Kelly and his daughters, Lexie and Jasmine Kelly (fiancé Chris Love), Sandra Kelly and her daughter Jessa Philp, Evan Kelly and his wife Linda Tinmouth and children Rachel, Brenna, and Adam Kelly, Fraser M. Kelly and his wife Loraine Kelly and daughters Madeline and Leah Kelly, and Spencer Kelly and his wife Sally Bissoondialsingh and daughters Samira and Chaya Kelly. She is also survived by numerous friends too many to mention by name here. Joan Kelly was born Marie Rose Jeanne (Joan) Gramigna in 1934 in Sudbury and grew up mostly in Sudbury and Toronto. In 1954, she married Fayez (Fraser) P. Kelly who predeceased her in 2015. Together, they raised their five children and Joan’s love, strength and guidance will always be cherished and missed by her children. She was an amazing mother and grandmother and delighted in being part of her family member’s lives. While an excellent cook, Joan always said she hated cooking and yet, somehow, passed on a love of and skill in cooking to all her children. Joan took up painting later in her life and this quickly became her passion and vocation. She was active in the local art community and was particularly known for her paintings of the rocks on the beaches of Lake Superior. She was accepted into the Pastel Association and the Art Society of Ontario and was most proud of one of her paintings that was hung in the public library in Newmarket. She loved her dogs (Daniel, Blue, Suzie and Tipper) who were her companions at different stages of her life. Joan always made her own wine which she insisted was better than any wine that a person could buy in the store; the last batch of homemade wine will be shared at her celebration of life. She was an avid bridge player and loved her regular games with her long-standing bridge club. When her husband had a stroke, she cared for him with tenderness and devotion; she very much appreciated the support and friendship during that time and afterwards of the people of the Alzheimer’s support group. Joan was living happily and independently in her own apartment, still driving, and active right up until her recent illness. Joan always said that she disliked obituaries that made a person out to be a saint; so, while she was not a saint, she was a good person whose impact on those around her was positive and powerful. She will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a celebration of life in 2022. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favourite charity.
