February 11, 1956 – November 25, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hugh announce his peaceful passing in the evening of November 25, 2022, at the Sault Area Hospital.  Hugh was husband to his high school sweetheart, Nancy, and father to sons Logan, Kyle (Ashley), and daughter, the late Deana Cowley (Adam).   Hugh is the son of Lindsay Juby (predeceased) and Rosemary Juby.  He is brother to Heather Luszka (John), Brenda O’Neill (Michael), Debbie Kirby (Curtis).  Hugh was the son-in-law to the late William Biron (late Amelia), brother-in-law to the late Joan Biron, Sherry McGregor (Bob) and Jim Kendrick (Laurie).

His greatest joy as Grand-daddy was watching his grandchildren growing up – Evan, Adelyn and Marley Juby and Nixon and Reid Cowley.  There were 4-wheeler rides and Hugh being ever creative, turned his 4-wheeler into Santa’s sleigh, reindeer head included.

Hugh grew up in Goulais River on a farm learning everything there was to know about farming.  He loved to hunt moose, deer, partridge, and turkeys and enjoyed the wild caribou hunt in northern Quebec.  The hunting and fishing expeditions were shared with a group of lifelong friends – Frank and Eddie Fenos, Rob Eusebi and Terry Byrnes as well as many others.

Hugh was a very talented contractor and had his own company for a period of time when entrepreneurship was relatively rare.  His creativity in construction had him building things such as a mobile sauna and outhouse for his hunting expeditions.  He took pride in helping others and would come at any time to help with any cement or construction needs.  He was a true and loyal friend to many who knew him.

There were many facets to Hugh – inquisitive, bright, cynical humour, kind, soft and stubborn.  He loved maps and the Discovery channel, and he kept a daily journal.  His favourite phrase for those that knew him well was “Have a Nice Day…”

We are heartbroken, but we take solace knowing that our husband, father, grand-daddy and friend left us in peace to embark on his next journey re-united with his daughter, father and dear friend Terry.

A memorial service will be held at Willowgrove United Church on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 11:00 am. to be officiated by Rev. Bruce McLeish

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Willowgrove United Church or in support of cancer, Tracey’s Dream.

Heartfelt thanks to Tiffany and Pam, 3A and Dr. Laviolette at the Sault Area Hospital
