(December 25,1947 - March 19, 2019) - It is with heavy hearts that the greatest husband, dad, papa, brother and friend passed away with his girls by his side. For those of you that knew Tap through his 71 years of life you would know that he was an amazing person who had many battles throughout his life and yet throughout those hard times he always thought of others first. Tapani is survived by his wife Phyllis (nee Cadham), daughters Shauna and Stacey Hynna and Lisa Shackleton (George) whose lives were blessed by having a man who always put them first and loved them unconditionally. Gavin, Taya and Zander Shackleton were his pride and joy and they will miss their papa (pops) dearly. Tapani moved from Finland when he was 4 years old with his beloved parents Pentti and Alli Hynna. (pre-deceased). Tapani has two sisters Anna Keranen (Jarmo predeceased) and Elsi Keranen (Jari) that made his world a brighter place. He was considered “the rock”and the best brother anyone could ask for. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and was so proud of. His best friends (a part of our family) Frank and Gloria Bumbaco made many memories with him that will never be forgotten and more will be made with the family. Billy and Linda Bradford shared many good times and laughs that are celebrated. His coffee buddies gave him lots of good times times and gossip and Robert Travaglini (Trav) was by his side every step the way.  When Tapani was in his teens he suffered a terrible accident at the steel plant that changed his hockey career and life. He fought hard to survive. His special cousin Ralph Jussila (predeceased) was instrumental in his recovery. It was a battle that would change his life forever and make him the legend that he was and always will be. He was an athlete through and through and the accident did not stop him. He still downhill skied, bowled, golfed, fished  and lived a full life. He taught his family and friends some very important lessons: live your life for today, laugh often and have fun, be kind, love like there is no tomorrow and eat the butter tart. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Water Tower Inn, East Central Hall from 4pm until 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations (payable by cheque) to the SAH Foundation would be appreciated.  We would like to send a sincere thank you to the Sault Area Hospital staff of ADCP, 3C, ICU and Step Down Unit (especially Shawna) for their compassionate care. A special thanks to Dr. Hill, Cindy Sheaves, Dr. Sarah White and the Superior Health  team for their demonstrated commitment to his care and to our family. A special thanks to Pharmacist Jake McCracken for going above and beyond. Tapani will be missed dearly. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522).

Live With Passion

Death is more universal than life;

everyone dies, but not everyone lives.
