Passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at the age of 87.  He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Iona of 64 years and his children Wendy McDonald (Jamie), Shelley Hendrickson (Steve), Jeffrey (Kathy) Donna Saccucci (Sandro), Lynn Bruckelmyer (Dennis), Jackie Moravec, Shannon Celetti (Tim) and Tammy Hendrickson (Roger).  Grandpa of 23 grandchildren, 96 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson across Canada and the United States.  

Elmer was born in Rockpoint, Saskatchewan on February 1, 1934 to Wayne and Aune Holmstrom.  Also survived by his siblings Ailleen (late Robbie), Edwin (late Hazel) Vivian (Joe), Marvin (Elaine) and predeceased by Archie (Willene) (late Edith).  Brother-in-law of the late Raymond (Mabel), late Thelma (late Wayne), late Velma (late Bill) (late Horst), Marvin (late Nina) (Effie), late Everett (late Donna) and Donald (late Patsi).  Elmer will also be missed by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.  

He was a faithful member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church for many years.  Elmer and Iona moved with their family to Sault Ste. Marie in 1974 where he worked for the City Board of Works as a stationary engineer for 20 years until his retirement at the age of 60.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Sault Area Hospital 3B for their compassion.  Also we would like to thank Dr. Fritz and Dr. Bowen for their wonderful care.

Family and friends are invited to the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church (743 Third Line East) on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 9:30 am until the time of Funeral Service at 11 am (masks and social distancing are required).  Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  Memorial donations made (payable by cheque or online) to the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Parkinson's Society or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).  Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family.
