HIBBARD, William own framed
Peacefully, with his family by his side at Algoma Residence Community Hospice on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the age of 94.  Beloved husband of the late Gertrude Hibbard (nee Harrison).  Loving father of Susan (Richard), Sunny (Dan), David (Wendy) and Jen (Paul).  Proud grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 7. Dear brother of the late David, Doris and Robert.  Bill was born on July 28, 1924 on sacred Mount Omei near Chengtu, China, to United Church missionaries, Ernest and Mary Jane Hibbard (née Ure). Bill's lifelong passion for sailing began on a pond in China and continued through his working life in the Toronto area. After a successful career selling sailboats he and Gertrude retired with their boat to St. Joseph Island. From Hilton Beach they made many sailing voyages to the Bahamas and back.  Living among the hardwoods of St. Joe's, Bill's gift for building and woodworking flourished. When not sailing Tack Too, he was making furniture, whimsical art objects and maple syrup until the last year of his life. His energy, curiosity and ingenuity, along with love of family, will be missed by all who knew him and continue to inspire his family to carry on his legacy with pride. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Hilton Beach Community Hall from 1 – 4, with service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH, or the SAH Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated. Their compassion and care of our father was outstanding. Special thank you to Dr. Lupien, Dr. Booth and Dr. Rassouli and all his island friends for their care and support. (Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel 492 Wellington St. E. – 705-759-2522).
