HAZELTON, William James (Bill)

Posted

Hazelton

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 90. Bill will be deeply missed by Val, his beloved wife of 62 years and his children Derek (Margaret), Bruce, Barry (Julie) and Todd (Steve). Beloved grandfather of Gary (Joceline), late Shannon, Luke (Chantal), Brandon (Katie), Mitchell, and Daniel.  Special great grandfather of Harper.  Bill was born August 13, 1930 in Digby, Nova Scotia and spoke often of his love for his homestead and family. He enjoyed returning home with his family, always proud of his Maritime roots, renewing acquaintances with family and friends, sampling the local delicacies (lobster and dulse), and growing up on the Bay of Fundy.

He was the first son of Freda and William, a welcome addition to what eventually became a family of nine children. Bill took great pride in his service with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his second career at Algoma Steel. While stationed in Saint John, New Brunswick, he met Val, the daughter of Edgar and Valida Arsenault, whom he would eventually marry on February 15, 1958.  They went on to raise four sons, born and raised in different communities where he served, Sault Ste Marie being the final posting of his career.

A private family service will be held at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Women in Crisis or the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be appreciated.

A special thank you to Dr. Patterson.  His trust in her, and the heartfelt compassion that she demonstrated throughout her visits to the hospital tells us he had a great companion on his journey.  We would also like to thank the nurses of 3A at Sault Area Hospital, whose care not only made our father comfortable, but also comforted us when we needed it the most. Additional thanks to the staff and residents at Collegiate Heights.

Following a long life, he joins his “Princess”, who in her short life earned a special place in his heart.
