Posted

Don passed on peacefully, with dignity and his family and friends at his side, at the North Bay General Hospital on Monday March 8, 2004 at the age of 69 years. Donald Kintrea Harris was the beloved husband of the late Irene Martha "Renie" Titze who predeceased him in 2001. Proud and loving father of Steven Harris (Shan Barr) of Toronto, Carol Harris of Victoria B.C., and Dianne Harris (Gary Paterson) of Whitby. Don will be lovingly remembered by his grandson Eric. Dear brother of Stuart Harris (Angie) and Barbara Greenwood both of Sault Ste. Marie and Phyllis McClary of Port Alberny, B.C. Predeceased by his sister Eileen MacGillivary. Don was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Airforce for over 35 years, serving as a Master Warrant Officer at CDII. A member of the 406 Squadron, the Royal Canadian Legion and an associate member of the Canadian Forces AYR, he was well known in both military and civilian circles. Don's easy smile often graced the curling rinks, the golf courses and any beautiful lake that offered up a few decent pickerel. As an avid curler, Don and his teams were proud to represent Northern Ontario at the Canadian Senior's Curling Championship more than a few times. "The Briar for Old Guys" as Don liked to call it. Not only was he one of the best skips on the ice, but an inspiring leader in life. Don was strong in character, but always humble, and taught each of us a thing or two about remaining fair to everyone. He was a colourful storyteller who most often had everyone laughing. A strong supporter of the Relay for Life, the Wing, the Mess and an especially strong supporter to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family, and his dear friends Denyse Witham, Donna Gilliard, Len Davis, Bob Bland, Ernie Dobson, and many, many others. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home, 464 Wyld Street, North Bay on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, March 11th at 11 a.m. If desired, donations to the Relay for Life, or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. The family extends their thanks for the support and kindness the community has shared during this time.
