(June 18, 1938 – March 11, 2019) - After a life filled with the joy of being with family and friends, Joan passed away surrounded by those that she loved. The cherished wife of Irv Gibbs, and the “love of his life” for 65 years and beyond.  Treasured mother, best friend and side-kick of Cathy Gibbs, and the late Scott Gibbs (Debbie). Her brothers, Ken Ferguson (Edith) and Don Ferguson, will miss her deep devotion to family. Preceded in death by her parents Irene and Glen Ferguson, her sister Marylin Muirhead, her mother-in-law Genevieve Gibbs, and her father-in-law Earl Sr. Gibbs, with whom she will be reunited. Adored and special grandmother to Kaitlin and Alicia Gibbs. They will miss her laughter and encouragement to be their best. Grandmother to Brad Gibbs, and great-grandmother to Lexyss and Riker, who can hold dear the special moments she created just for them. Joan will be missed by her sisters-in-law Jeanine Hicks (Bob), Donna Borghese (Carmen), Debbie Trudel (Ivan); her brothers-in-law Earl Jr. Gibbs (Louise), Don Gibbs (Joan); the late Lorne Gibbs, late Earlyn Pickard (late Stanley), late Gerald “Buddy” Gibbs (Ginger), late Joanne-Marie “Dickie” Barrow (late Bill), and the late Sandi Rector (Hervey). Her many nieces and nephews will miss her contagious smile and unbridled personality. She will be deeply missed by her amazing group of friends with whom she shared much laughter on their adventures. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at SAH, the cancer clinic, and the palliative care team for their efforts. A special thank you to Dr. Wilson for her extra care and compassion in helping our family through the final weeks. A heartfelt note of thanks to the dedicated RN’s, RPN’s, PSW’s, volunteers and Chef Tom of ARCH for making us feel at home during her stay at ARCH. Our sincerest gratitude to the close friends and family who came to visit at ARCH, helping to make those final weeks more memorable.

As per Joan’s wishes, there will not be a service, and cremation has already taken place. Memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to ARCH would be greatly appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522).
