Peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at S.A.H. in his 91st year. Devoted husband of Shirley for 67 years. Loving father of Brenda (Bob McDonald), Linda Federley (Reijo), Brent, and Rhonda Fata (Jamie).  Cherished grandfather of Sabrina and Colton Fata.  Wilfred will also be greatly missed by extended family, friends and close neighbours.  Predeceased by his parents Anne and Gottfried Gallander and adopted brother David Landry.  Wilfred retired from the Algoma Central Railway, Maintenance of Way Dept. after 32 years of dedicated service. Over his career, he operated the snow plow, spreader and flanger, dynamited, maintained track and instructed track maintenance.  Wilfred was a wonderful cook and gardener.  We will really miss his Finnish pancakes on Sunday mornings!  He also enjoyed puzzles, assembly of intricate ship models, travelling, storytelling and feisty discussions of politics and current affairs.  Friends and family are invited to visit at Arthur Funeral Home-Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522) on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service from the chapel on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. David Zub officiating.  Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to The War Amputations of Canada, March of Dimes Canada (Post-Polio Program) or the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.  The family thanks Dr. Aziz, Dr. Fratesi and Dr. Schamp and staff of the Sault Area Hospital for their care and compassion.

Dad has left us with a treasury of memories, and his love will guide us forever.
