Transitioned through this life to the next with his family by his side on January 14th 2017, in his 93rd year.  Mario was born in Cleto, Calabria, Italy to Antonio and Rosaria Furano on May 14, 1923.  A part of the Italian Traditionalist generation, Mario served his country during World War II. Following the war Mario married Isabella (nee Aiello) on October 25, 1951 and shortly thereafter had two children, Tony and Maria. In search of a better life for his family, Mario travelled to Venezuela and subsequently was sponsored into Canada by his brother Geniale in 1960.  Six years later, Mario was successful in reaching his goal of resettling his family.  After the hardships, he faced both during the war and in accomplishing his ultimate goal Mario enjoyed the tranquility of tending to his vegetable garden and ensuring the lawn was both deep green and weed-free. Mario also enjoyed preserving his Italian heritage annually through sausage and wine making and canning ‘sugo’.

Mario is lovingly remembered as a devoted father to Tony Furano (Anna) and Maria Pino (Aldo).  Cherished Nonno to Rebecca, Justin and Melinda Furano and Giuseppe (Christine), Anthony (Aleeya) and Jason Pino (Emily).  Mario is also fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Ermelinda Vallati (late Amedeo) and Elvira Falcone (late Paolo) of Ottawa.  Special uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.

Through this transition, Mario has been reunited with his loving wife Isabella; his parents Antonio and Rosaria; his siblings; Geniale Furano (Rosa), Achille Furano (Emilia), Fortunato Furano (Carmela), Concetta and Raffaela Furano; his mother and father-in-law, Maria and Oscarino Aiello.

The family would like to thank the Staff of the FJ Davey Home for their care and compassion over the years.  A special thank you to Sharon, Penny, Anna and Palma.
