The family announces with great sadness the peaceful passing of a treasured mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joyce (nee Porter) Finlayson, on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in her 92nd year at the F. J. Davey Home in Sault Ste. Marie, ON surrounded by family members.

Joyce Marilyn Porter was born February 26, 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie to Clifford Franklin Porter and Jane “Jennie” Albina Kenshol. She was predeceased by the love of her life of 66 years, Ted Finlayson, in December 2017 and married on 24 August 1951 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.  Mother of Carol (Rick) Heaslip, James “Jim” (Christine) Finlayson and John (Meril) Finlayson; Grandma to Christopher (Lisa Poeta) Heaslip, Greg (Julie Girard) Heaslip, Jason (Allison Legere) Finlayson, Shannan (Greg) Mayer, and Jeremy Finlayson; Great-Grandma to Alexia, Eddie and Lena Heaslip; Elizabeth, A.J. and Merrick Heaslip; Roderick and Maxwell Mayer; Teddy Finlayson and Jayden Legere. Predeceased by sisters, Shirley (late Tom) Woods, Dana (late Ermie) Folco, and Lois Porter. Also pre-deceased by her in-laws, “Mac” Finlayson and “Jean” Becking. Pre-deceased by her in-laws Gladys Bayles (late Al), Kay Brodie (late Art), Alec Finlayson (late Sally) and Jack Finlayson (late Elva). Joyce is also survived by many loved and loving nieces and nephews. Joyce was a loyal member of Emmanuel United Church: a youth group leader, church choir member, and U.C.W. member. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.  Family was of utmost importance to Joyce and many enjoyable years were spent at camp on McCarrel’s Lake with family and friends, and at their winter retreat in Zephyhills, FL. It is a well-known fact that Joyce, along with Ted, were lifelong supporters of the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Sault Greyhounds and hardly ever missed a televised game! The family wish to acknowledge the excellent care and compassion shown by the staff at the F. J. Davey Home in Joyce’s short stay, and the wonderful care of the Kitatalo Finnish Rest Home staff where Joyce made her home for seven years.

Cremation has taken place; interment to follow at Sylvan Valley Cemetery with family in attendance for a private graveside service. Memorial contributions (payable by cheque or online) to the Canadian Cancer Society, to the F.J. Davey Home, or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).  Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family.
