Passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the age of 80. 

Beloved wife of the late Nicholas "Nick" Farkas. Cherished mother of Melody (Jamie) and Stephen (Tara). Loving grandma of Hannah and Matthew. Predeceased by her mother Margaret Spence.  Daughter-in-law of the late Mary and late Joseph Farkas. Sister-in-law of Shirley Huling, Frank Farkas, Jeannie Bright (late Jack), and George Farkas (late Julia). Joanne will be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joanne was born July 28th, 1942 in Toronto and moved to Sault Ste Marie in 1954 with her mother. She met the love of her life, Nick in High School.  They married in 1965 and moved to Houghton, MI where Nick completed his degree in Chemical Engineering before returning to the Sault in 1967.  

Joanne pursued a career in marketing and worked at CKCY Radio, MCTV, and Searchmont/Water Tower Inn. She also had many artistic talents including watercolour painting and writing and won the Can Pro award for best Canadian documentary four times. She had a passion for contributing to the community and was involved in many organizations including May Court Club, Art Gallery of Algoma, and Sault Area Hospital foundation. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Bodnar, Dr. Vine, Dr. Bowen and her resident Britney as well as nurses Emma, Lindy and Shannon from Sault Area Hospital.

At Joanne's request, there will not be a public service.  She will be laid to rest with her husband and mother at St. Luke's Columbarium. Memorial contribution (payable by cheque or online) to Sault Area Hospital - Cancer Care Fund would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).
