July 18, 1929 – November 28, 2022

Norma passed away peacefully at the F.J. Davey home on November 28, 2022, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Leonard Crockford, mother to Carla Anderson (Rob), late Nancy, and Ann Hara (Mark).  Loving Grandmother to Katie Hara, Steven Anderson (Kristin), Brad Hara (Jess), Mark Anderson and Heather Anderson.  Great-Grandmother to Kensington and Penelope Hara.  Survived by her brother Ray Goodmurphy (Jeannine).  Predeceased by her parents Harry and Annie Goodmurphy and her siblings Lyla Walker (Lloyd), Blanche Walker (Gerald), Lloyd Goodmurphy, Doris Crockford (Earl), Lawrence Goodmurphy (Norma & Barb), and Glenna Crockford (Ross), as well as her brother-in-law Al Crockford (Olga).  She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Norma was born on Cockburn Island, where she lived until she was three, before moving to Dayton.  As a young woman she resided in Sault Ste Marie before moving to Terrace Bay, marrying, and raising a family with Len.

Norma was a woman who always carried a smile and never dwelled on the sad times.  In her younger days, she was an active community volunteer with the McCausland Hospital Auxiliary as well as a Life member of the Terrace Bay Curling Club.  She spent much time at camp at Whitesand Lake where there was an open-door policy for a meal and a place to stay.  She enjoyed golfing and fishing but most of all she enjoyed playing cards.  She had a very competitive spirit, so it didn’t matter if you were young or old, she was ready to beat you.

A few years following the passing of her husband Len, she moved to Collegiate Heights, in Sault Ste Marie to be closer to family.  She kept busy putting up puzzles, baking, spending time at camp and of course playing cards.  Once her health started to fail, Norma moved to Birch 1, at the F.J. Davey Home where she spent her final 9 years.  Norma could be found at most of the activities that were offered to residents or people-watching from the First Floor Driftwood window.

The family would like to thank the staff of Birch 1 as well as the activity staff at the F. J. Davey Home for their care and compassion and for making mom feel at home and comfortable. An extra special thanks  to Heather, Cheryl and Margaret who helped us navigate through mom’s final days.

Donations to Emmanuel United Church, F.J. Davey Home Foundation, in Sault Ste Marie, or The McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2023.
