It’s with tremendous sadness that the children of Mary Eleanor Coulas (Nibs) announce her passing on the morning of October 19th, 2019. She was born to the late Kenneth and Jean Bartle January 18, 1945 in Brantford, Ontario.  She passed away after a courageous fight against Multiple Myeloma. She created a great life in Sault Ste. Marie beginning in 1970 with her late husband Brian Coulas (deceased 2012); now she can finally rest and join her life partner (married July 4, 1969).  Mary’s memory continues through her children, Meredith, Brent and daughter-in law Rebecca. She will be remembered by her brothers Paul (Diane) and Scott (Sally) and her brothers-in law Jerry (Joan), Danny (Barb), Peter (Sally) and Paul (deceased 2014).  It was the little people in her life that helped her continue to fight and fueled her desire to live. Nana will be missed and lives on in the hearts of Clara, Elliott and Abrham. She was a loving aunt and created fond memories with Beth, John-Paul, Kela, Jesse, Ben, Marla, Lain, Daniel, Tarin and Erica. Since her retirement as a high school teacher in 2000, she has been on many adventures, played many rounds of golf, shared many meals with friends, and undertaken several knitting projects. In recent years she felt great pride from her work with the patient advisory boards for SAH and Cancer Care Ontario. Mary was thankful to all of her friends that have been her support system in the last few months allowing her to remain at home even as her health began to decline. The medical personnel and the staff at both Sault Area Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital need to be commended for their compassion and a high level of care. A memorial service will take place at St. Andrews United Church (712 Wellington St. E) on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Eun-Joo Park officiating. A celebration of life is also planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations on her behalf to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or ARCH would be much appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
