Born April 11, 1950, Aiello, Calabro Italy.  It is with great sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Coccimiglio, with her loving family by her side after a short and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the young age of 69 years in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada at the Sault Area Hospital. 

Loving and caring wife of Frank Coccimiglio. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Cecilia and Sergio Zagordo, Nick and Deborah Coccimiglio and Angela and Jeremie O’Dell. Very loving and proud Nanni to Stephanie and Daniel Zagordo, Adrian and Alexa O’Dell and Francesco, Aryana and Ava Coccimiglio. Cherished and devoted daughter of the late Cecilia Bernardo and the late Eugenio Guzzo-Foliaro (Antonietta). Very special daughter-in-law of the late Dominic and Angela Coccimiglio. Loved and cared for in early childhood by her grandparents, the late Maria and Melchiorre Guzzo-Foliaro and the late Angela and Tomasi Bernardo. Loved by many special aunts and uncles, especially her Godmother the late Emma (Antonio) Caria, Genoeffa and Mario Coccimiglio, Iolanda and Emilio Guzzo, the late Marty (Rita) Bernardo, the late Ida (Eugenio) Coccimiglio and Palomenia (Egidio) Tilesio. Sister-in-law of the late Nicola (late Ermerinda), late Battista (Rosaria), Mario (Genoeffa) and the late Gaetano (Carmela). Step-sister of Aldo (Sara) Guzzo-Foliaro and Gino (Cathy) Guzzo-Foliaro.  Sadly missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Beloved “Mother Mary” and dear friend of Shirley and Ralph Caria and their children Kristin (Michael) Morsillo, Laura (Tommy) Caldwell, Melissa (Brian) Finley, and Matthew Caria, and of Rosa and Jim Celetti and their children Rita (friend Ryan) Celetti, Steven (Angela) Celetti and Meghan Celetti. Loving Godmother to many, especially Matthew Caria, Milva Howe, Jane Orazietti and Christina George.  She will be dearly missed by many friends especially long time friends Maria and Gaspare Rino, Gina and Frank Bennato,Offelia and Modesto Muto, Ida and Alfredo Coccimiglio, Ida and  Settimio Zagordo, Lina and Angelo Greco, Louise and Angelo Pucci, Bianca Paradiso, Louisa Palarchio and Maria Spina.

She will always be remembered for her unconditional love, courage and devotion. Maria was known for being such a giving person, always worrying about others. She had such a big heart and was always there for everyone. She was selfless and always put everyone before herself.  

At Maria’s request, there will be a private visitation for close friends and family on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 starting at 10:00 am at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East - 705-759-2522). Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish (114 MacDonald Ave.) on Wednesday February 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations made to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A very special thank you to Dr. Maione, Dr. Rassouli, Paula Greco, RN and the nurses in the Cancer Clinic.

Thank you to Dr. Garniss, Dr. Ladak, and the nurses for their excellent care in the Emergency Department. An extra special thank you to the phenomenal staff on 3B, Dr. Booth, Dr. Meligrana, Dr. N. Apostle, and nurses Victoria, Jason, Colleen, Celiena, Alanna, Angie  and Anna C. for the excellent care and compassion shown to Maria in her final days.

Also, the home care nurses especially Holly Febbraro.  Thank you to our special social workers Kristy Johnson and Franca Iachetta for their constant support, guidance and love during this very difficult time.  The family is grateful to you and to anyone that touched her life in any special way. Above all, we thank God for sharing Maria with us. Now she is finally reunited with her mother Cecilia whom she lost at the very young age of 6 months old.
