December 27, 1923- April 22, 2019 - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Doris Elizabeth Cameron announce the parting of their beloved matriarch at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Wednesday, April 22, 2019.  Doris passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter Mary Ellen, her son Robert and daughter-in-law Sandy, and her niece Jennifer.

Doris is predeceased by her beloved husband Albert Malcolm Cameron.  This wonderful couple was  married for 66 years.  Doris was loved and will be missed by her children Mary Ellen Luukkonen (Martti),  Robert Cameron (Sandy), late Paula Wilton (Doug and honorary daughter-in-law Ann Marie) Grant Cameron ( Susan).  Fondly known to her family as Nana she was especially proud to tell everyone that she was a grandmother to 12 grandchildren and great grandmother to 15 with 2 more on the way.  Doris was the eldest of three children born to Edwin and Isabel Fennel. She is survived by her dear brother John Fennell (late Marietta), and the late Mary Calhoun (Stewart).  Doris and Albert spent many fun filled years with this “group of six”.  She is an aunt to many nieces and nephews who she kept in contact with over the years as they were so special to her.  When our family thinks about what was important to our parents, without hesitation we know it was all about family.  The family cottage at Twin Lakes was the gathering spot for our clan in the summer.  Special occasions were celebrated at their home on Moluch Street in the home that they built and lived in for 52 years.  Many a good party for friends was hosted by our parents in that home.  Doris made many wonderful friends over the years.  She was a devout Anglican and worshipped and supported St. Luke’s Cathedral for many years.  She was supported always by Dean Jim McShane through happy celebrations and through the more troubling times in her life.  The family is sincerely grateful for the support and comfort he brought to her life. Doris always told us that she wanted to live her final years at Collegiate Heights Retirement Home.  When Albert passed away she did move to Collegiate Heights where she spent the last 3 years of her life.  She had a good life there.  When she moved in she had many old friends who were living there and she made many more wonderful friends.  Our family extends the warmest thanks to the staff at Collegiate Heights for the loving personal approach to making Doris feel comfortable and happy.  The family will miss “Nana” so much.  We know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives.  She would wonder at times why she was still alive at 95 years of age.  We told her it is because she is loved by family and friends, taken care of by the wonderful staff and friends at Collegiate Heights and her family Doctor Chis Bruni looked after her so well.  She accepted that with a little smile. Family and friends may visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 4 until 7 pm.  Memorial Service held from St. Luke's Cathedral on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 10:30 am.  Very Rev. James McShane officiating.  Memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to ARCH or St. Luke's Cathedral be considered if you want to do something in memory of Doris. The family extends their appreciation to ARCH staff who made the final days of “Nana’s” life so comfortable and were exceptionally kind to the family as we all helped Nana through her final days.

We will miss this wonderful woman.
