November 27, 1942 - September 13, 2021

Our Mom may have been your neighbour; or manager of a rental complex where you resided; or you may have seen her out enjoying one of her favourite pastimes, shopping. To us kids, Cindy Ellen Crawford and Glenn Crawford, Mom was the one who taught us the value of a strong work ethic, determination and making the most of what you have; and the importance of support – whether it was helping one another or advocating for someone else.  Mom was a great cook and baker; loved camping and fishing; and enjoyed ironing while watching her favourite TV shows. She knew how to ballroom dance, especially the waltz; loved country music, and travelling. She was the loving wife of the late Bram Bonsor, who treated her like his queen. She was the adoring Grandma of Aurora Tynan, her ‘Peanut.’  As the only grandchild, she was privy to exclusive spoiling rights.

Daughter of the late George and Ellen Speers. Sister of Margaret Powley (Ed); Shirley Causley (Cliff); Jean Snell (Bill); Betty Elliott; Donald Speers (Rosemary); the late Violet Steinke (Gil); the late Jack Speers; the late Garnet Speers (Anne); the late Bill Speers (Barb); the late Bob Speers (Georgina). Sister-in-law of the late Hal Bonsor (Linda) and Diane Cummins (Pat). Aunt to many. Lifelong friend to Jackie Leblanc Murphy.

Mom was initially a resident at Cedarwood Lodge and we thank staff there, for their care. In recent years, she resided at Extendicare Maple View where she was a respected member of the Harmony Bay wing community and enjoyed the indulgence and care of their dedicated staff.  Ellen’s children genuinely appreciate the compassionate care shown in our Mom’s final days and the courtesy and support extended to us.

Cremation to take place. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. A memorial celebration of her life, at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522), to be announced at later date.
