“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Peacefully and into the arms of our Lord Jesus at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Thursday, June 16, 2022, just 79 days after his beloved wife and best friend Diane. Loving father to Geoff and Steven (Debbie). Cherished grandfather of Carly, Jordan, Alayna (Darren Horton), Robert, and Kristy. Great grandfather of Raya. Predeceased by his parents Robert (Frank) and Aletha. Brother of Jessie Seyfried (Robert) of Granite Bay, California, and Constance (Connie) Robb (Angus) of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Brother-in-law of Catherine Abbott (Jim) of Oakville, Ont. and Jane Winegarden (late Tom) of Barrie, Ont. Robert will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, wonderful friends, and long-time neighbors.

Bob was raised in Luanshya, Rhodesia (now Zambia), Africa and had many wonderful experiences to share over the years of his adventures growing up in Africa. Bob also had many entertaining stories of his time serving the Soo for 33 years as a City Police officer. Bob arrived in the Soo in 1958 and soon after joining the police force attracted the eyes of his soon to be bride while riding on a police motorbike.

Bob was known for his honesty, integrity, giving nature, and strong Christian values. He was a true gentleman.  Bob enjoyed golf and curling and was an active member of Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle and in the community. He participated on the board with the Women in Crisis (Algoma) Inc.  and served as a volunteer for many years at the Sault Area Hospital.

Bob and his wife Diane were both blessed to be together at ARCH hospice during their final days together. The family would like to thank Dr. Nicki Apostle and all the staff and volunteers at ARCH for the dignity and love they provided each and every day during their stay.

A service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions payable by cheque or online to A.R.C.H. would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Bird-Thompson family.
