With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of Susan Belleau on January 21, 2021, in Cumming, Georgia where she spent the winter months in the comfort and warmth of her son’s home.
Susan was born on July 16, 1946 to Victor and Margaret Hewett and grew up in a large family in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. In her early teens, she met the love of her life, Blaine Belleau. Now, when she would tell the story of how they met she would deny that she even liked him at all. She would say, “He was a show-off and a know-it-all that was just trying to impress me.” Blaine would instead refer to this as his irresistible charm, and charm her he did! In December 1960, Blaine and Susan were married and together created a large family. Sadly, we lost Blaine in 2013, but we know they’re now reunited. Susan loved her children dearly and took great pride in being a mother to Laura Beckstrom (John Horton), Susie Venneri (Santo), Blair (Lisa), Michael (Janie), Jason, Jacob (Candice), Joshua (Lacy), Blaine (Sheena) and Zachariah. We also can’t forget her beloved “fur baby” Ozzy who will miss her terribly.
When the children were grown, Susan began working at Zellers and continued for many years and later worked for a short time at Sears. Naturally, she made many friendships along the way. Those who knew Susan, knew how much she loved fast cars, shopping sprees and yelling “Bingo!”. Her eyes would light up at the thought of going on a shopping trip, especially with her daughters and daughters-in-law. Blaine would just shake his head, give her a wink and smirk when she walked through the door with her arms full of shopping bags and her stories of all the “great deals” she found that day. He would tell her, “Don’t worry Doll, we’ll eat that next week!” His sly comments never got her down, and she’d up the ante with shopping trips to Detroit and Atlanta. Her liveliness and determination in life never slowed her down, and these qualities helped her to overcome many obstacles in life. She was like a little roadrunner, and left us all feeling tired just watching her go.
As her children grew up and had families of their own, they provided her with many grandchildren whom she loved; they held special places in her heart. Susan was grandmother to Vanessa, Ayla, Blake, Alicia, Justin, Brittany, Cherish, Samantha, Wyatt, Mathias, Meghan, Alyssa, Dylan, Sophie, Jackson, Ocean and Andrew. She was also Great-Grandmother to 7.
Susan was the much-loved sister of the late Cynthia (late Emmett), late Victoria (late David), Frederick (Jeanette), Genevieve (Len), Mary (John), Eleanor (Greg) and the late Hilarie (Bob). Sister-in-law of Elizabeth (late Dolphus), Gary (Brenda), Carolyn (Linden), Karen (John), Roberta, Jennifer (Ron), Joanne (Mike), late Arnold, late Wallace (June), late Frederick, late Dana and the late Christopher (Darlene).
A special thank you to her neighbours in Georgia and the First Responders for all their care and support during this difficult time. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming, Georgia. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when we can all be together again.
Susan was a kind and generous woman who would give whatever she had to those in need, even when at times she didn’t have much herself. Although she didn’t have much, she definitely made up for it in the love she showed her family and the delicious meals she shared with family and friends. So whenever you think of our dear mother, we ask that you rev your engine a little louder, pick a Tupac song from your playlist, treat yourself to that fancy purse or those beautiful shoes or even yell “Bingo!” with an extra dose of enthusiasm; we know those are the little things in life that always made her smile. We love you Mom… till we meet again.
