USports: Mustangs blank Carabins 4-0 in women's hockey quarterfinal

LONDON, Ont. — Carmen Lasis stopped all 41 shots she faced as the Western Mustangs shut out the Montreal Carabins 4-0 on Thursday in the quarterfinal of the Canadian university women's hockey championship.

Shailyn Waites scored twice for Western, the host of the tournament. Ali Beres and Rachel Armstrong added singles.

Marie-Pier Chabot turned aside 22-of-25 shots for Montreal.

The Mustangs scored on their only power play and the Carabins had no man advantages.

Also, Kennedy Harris's power-play goal near the midway point of the third period was the winner as the Saskatchewan Huskies edged the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-2 in another quarterfinal.

Abby Shirley had a goal and an assist for Saskatchewan and Kaitlin Willoughby also scored. Jessica Vance made 29 saves for the win.

Caitlin Pejkovic and Breanna Lanceleve supplied the offence for Saint Mary's. Rebecca Clark turned aside 35 shots in net.
