Montreal Alouettes' Drew Willy joins growing list of injured quarterbacks

REGINA — Another starting CFL quarterback has gone down with an injury.

Montreal pivot Drew Willy was removed from Saturday night's game against the host Saskatchewan Roughriders and didn't return after being injured on a sack.

"I believe it was a neck and shoulder injury," said Montreal head coach Mike Sherman after the game, while offering nothing more.

Willy was taken to the locker-room for medical treatment after being sacked in the third quarter by Roughriders defensive lineman Charleston Hughes. He was later seen back on the sidelines but was not dressed.

The 31-year-old Willy joins Toronto Ricky Ray, Saskatchewan's Zach Collaros, Winnipeg starter Matt Nichols and the Blue Bombers No. 2 Alex Ross on the sidelines despite it being just the third week of the CFL season.

Meanwhile, B.C. quarterback Travis Lulay is still recovering from off-season knee surgery, assuring Jonathon Jennings the No. 1 spot with the Lions.

Willy was 8-of-15 for 157 yards and a touchdown when he left the game.

Jeff Mathews replaced Willy at quarterback and went 8-of-12 passing for 98 yards as the Alouettes held on for a 23-17 victory.

The Alouettes will take on the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday on Montreal.
