Cockerton, Dickson lead Canada in 22-3 rout of Scotland at lacrosse Worlds

NETANYA, Israel — Mark Cockerton and Curtis Dickson scored four goals apiece to lead Canada to a 22-3 rout over Scotland on Saturday at the men's lacrosse world championship.

Jeffrey Teat had eight points with seven assists, Kevin Crowley and Ben McIntosh scored three goals each, and Joshua Byrne had two goals and two helpers.

Tre Leclaire also scored twice for the Canadians, who improved to 2-0 after opening the tournament Friday with a 12-6 win over England. Zach Currier, Ian MacKay and Mark Matthews added singles.

Teat leads the team in points and sits fourth in tournament scoring with 13 on four goals and nine assists.

"We jumped on them early," said MacKay. "It's good to jump on a team early and catch your stride as fast as you can so that hopefully it comes easier in the rest of the game. Luckily, that was the case for us tonight."

Canada kept Scotland off the board over the first three quarters.

Luke Laszkiewicz broke the shutout in the 61st minute of the match and Colin Uyeki and Daniel McQuade tacked on goals in the final five minutes for the Scottish team.

Canada outshot Scotland 47-13.

"Defensively, we were effective and efficient," said head coach Randy Mearns. "We cleared the ball very, very well. I thought Graeme Hossack had a great game all the way around. Jason Noble was a beast on the defensive end as well."

The Canadians play the United States on Sunday. It will mark the first matchup between the two teams since Canada's 8-5 win in the finals of the 2014 World Championship in Denver.
