Canadian men's volleyball squad dropped by Puerto Rico at Pan American Cup

GATINEAU, Que. — The Canadian men's volleyball squad was dropped in straight sets by Puerto Rico on Wednesday in group play at the Pan American Cup.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-16, 25-22.

Maurice Torres and Sequiel Sanchez were the top scorers for Puerto Rico with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Danny Demyanenko had six for Canada.

"We didn't play well and they were better than us in every aspect of the game," said Canadian coach Larry McKay.

"The score is pretty indicative of the better team tonight."

The result leaves Argentina (2-0) alone on top in Group B with two wins.

Canada (1-1) meets Argentina and Puerto Rico (1-1) plays Venezuela (0-2) on Thursday, the final day of the preliminary round.

Building on the program's bronze-medal performance at the World League earlier this month, a younger Canadian squad is looking to improve on their third-place finish at the 2016 Pan Am, Canada's first medal at the event in five years.
