LONDON — Canadian international striker Adriana Leon has joined England's West Ham United.

The 26-year-old from King City, Ont., will wear No. 19 for the Hammers, who stand sixth in the F.A. Women's Super League table at 5-6-1 ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City and fellow Canadian Janine Beckie.

"I am thrilled to be here at West Ham United," Leon was quoted on the club website. "It's great to make this move over. I really wanted a change and I was keen to be playing at the top level in what is a crucial year.

"The World Cup is coming up with Canada and I want to play as much as possible, and West Ham is a really good challenge for me."

West Ham coach Matt Beard had worked with Leon in the NWSL with the Boston Breakers.

"I had a great working relationship with her at Boston, and she brings a winning mentality with her to West Ham," he said.

"Dri will bring goals and assists to our side," he added. "With us still being a relatively new group, she will add some more experience to our squad and even more quality to the final third."

Leon has also played for the Chicago Red Stars, Western New York Flash, Sky Blue FC, Seattle Reign and Switzerland's FC Zurich Frauen.

Leon has 54 caps and 14 goals for Canada.
