CITY OF SAULT STE MARIE

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is looking for young persons who are passionate about making a difference in Sault Ste. Marie.

To serve on the council, youths must be between the ages of 14 and 24, reside in and enrolled in secondary or post-secondary school in Sault Ste. Marie. Youths under the age of 18 will need the consent of a parent or guardian to apply.

“MYAC provides local youth with an opportunity to have a positive impact on our community through advocacy for issues, causes and organizations they are passionate about,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “It has been great to see the progression of MYAC since it launched in 2014, and I continue to be impressed with the leadership shown by its members through the council and the initiatives they’ve supported over the past few years. I encourage youth across our community to consider submitting an application."

The MYAC term will run from September until June. Meetings will be held virtually once a month in the evenings or after school. Activities will be altered as a result of COVID-19, and any potential events will follow public health guidance.

Youths interested in applying should expect a time commitment of between eight to 13 hours per month if they are selected for the council. For high school students, time spent on council activities can be used towards community service hours that are required to graduate.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 31, 2020. For more information about MYAC, including access to the application form, visit here or call 705-759-5310.
