Year-to-date bridge crossings down almost 69 percent over 2019

As COVID-19 travel restrictions continue, crossings down more than 91 percent for the month of August

Traffic for the calendar year-to-date on Aug. 31, 2020, is 289,917. This represents a year-to-date decrease of 68.4 per cent. The bridge has processed 102.97 million bridge crossings since 1962.

The International Bridge Administration today announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totaled 13,036 for the month of August 2020. This figure represents a decrease of 91.4 per cent, a difference of 138,325 crossings as compared to August 2019.

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance and support costs for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.
