**************************
17-year-old Paul Widgett has won the regional Fred Rams male swimmer of the year for the second consecutive year.

Widgett’s accomplishments in 2013-2014 include wins at Long Course and Short Course Provincial Championships in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle respectively and multiple medals at Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in February.

Widgett will be participating in the Ontario Junior International meet at the new completed Toronto Pan American Swimming Complex in December 2014.

SSMAC team mate, Andrew Quon was also a recipient of the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi Scholarship for his submission which describes the coach who most influences their swimming career.

SSMAC has a strong local tradition of supporting high performance athletes in competitive swimming in Sault Ste Marie.

Since 2007, five of the seven male winners of the Fred Rams Swimmer of the Year award have been SSMAC swimmers, including Widgett (2x), Shane Rock, and Brian Lee (2x).

We thank our partners and supporters in developing these regional, provincial and national athletes including Northeastern Region Ontario (NEOR) and 2014-2015 corporate supporter RBC financial.

Widgett will be presented his award at the upcoming NEOR Developmental meet in Sudbury Laurentian.
