His full press release is included below.

The first-time candidate will host an open house at Scott Coffee Co. on Wednesday, Aug 10 from 5 - 8 p.m. to discuss his platform with residents.

With election season only a few months away, candidates are beginning to take to the streets and connect with the residents of Sault Ste. Marie in hopes of securing their votes. Ward 3 Councilor candidate Kurtis McDermid will be hosting an open house at local cafe Scott Coffee Co., where residents are free to ask questions and voice their concerns in a more comfortable fashion.

Unlike the run-of-the-mill public appearances many political candidates tend to make, McDermid wants to go a step further and connect with voters on a more intimate level. He believes that having face-to-face, real conversations with voters goes further than the typical ‘kissing babies and hugging old ladies’ approach, and is more reflective of his personal leadership style.

Following the initial open house, McDermid plans on hosting similar events every two weeks in the months leading up to the election, where voters have the opportunity to meet him and discuss the election, his platform, or just say hello.

Right before the municipal election, which will take place on Oct. 24, 2022, one final open house will be held, as a last push to get voters out to the polls. The dates for these meetings are yet to be confirmed.

At these events, voters can learn more about McDermid’s platform, which focuses heavily on increasing the city’s tax base, reviving Sault tourism, and addressing ongoing issues affecting the city such as crime, vandalism, the opioid crisis and completing unfinished city projects.

As a life-long resident of the Sault, McDermid is passionate about improving the day-to-day lives of his neighbours, and making the city a more comfortable and vibrant place to live.

McDermid is the CEO of Odd Job Jacks, a contracting and maintenance corporation that employs over twenty people in Sault Ste. Marie and is one of the few certified living wage providers in the city. McDermid places a heavy emphasis on community support and working together with boots on the ground, pillars that are prominent in his platform.

Open house will take place at Scott Coffee Co. at 248 Northern Ave E on Wednesday, Aug 10th from 5-8pm. More details about Kurtis McDermid and his platform can be found on his Facebook page.
