The John Howard Society seeks volunteer board members

The John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie and District’s mandate is to provide effective, just and humane responses to crime and its causes.

We are an organization that helps people facing risk factors such as; unemployment, poverty, addiction, abuse, low education and criminal justice involvement.

The John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie and District is seeking volunteer members for the Board of Directors.

The John Howard Society’s mandate is to address the root causes of crime.

Thus, our primary role is to provide direct services in the form of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention services to at-risk individuals in our community.

Position

The Board of Directors will support the work of the John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie and District and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance.

While the day-to-day operations are led by the John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie and District’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

The Board of Directors of the John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie uses a policy governance model.

Board members’ duties entail attending monthly meetings and approving policies and practices in order to properly govern the agency.

Skills and qualifications

For this position, the ideal candidates that we are seeking will possess a financial skills background and will be interested in sitting on a policy making Board of Directors.
