Steelworkers Humanity Fund donates $4,000 to Soup Kitchen

Last week, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund presented the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen with a cheque for $4,000.

USW Local 2251 and USW Local 2724 also presented cheques on behalf of their membership. 

USW Local donated $1,500 and USW Local 2724 donated $1,000.
 
Founded in 1985, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is a registered charitable organization that focuses primarily on development projects and emergency aid in developing countries, but it also supports Canadian communities in crisis. 

Steelworker members contribute to the fund through clauses negotiated into collective agreements; in some cases matching contribution come from employers.

This year the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is donating $154,000 to 71 food banks in Canadian communities where USW members live and work. 

Sault Ste. Marie is one of the food banks to receive a donation.
