Friday was a day of giving for Cindy Zappacosta's grade 7/8 class at Northern Heights Public School.

In Geography, the class has been learning about Global Inequalities and they have explored many different charities that support less fortunate countries.

Local chiropodist, Grace Lobert, joined the 7/8 class to turn old jeans into shoe uppers.

Grace learned of the charity "Sole Hope" and its mission to prevent medical problems in the feet of the Ugandan people caused by jiggers, a burrowing insect.

Students collected old jeans and then traced and cut out the shoe patterns.  These patterns will be shipped to Kenya, Africa and workers will finish the production of the shoe making process.

That's not all the class has been up to!

In December, they raised money for the Compass School in Kenya, Africa by hosting special fundraising days such as "twin day" and "hat day".

Holly Wickett, retired principal and supporter of the Compass School came to receive the donation.
