On Saturday, the Bruce Mines Sno Glyders Snowmobile Club’s second annual Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids saw an increase in participants and donations, with 38 riders raising $9,648 for children with physical disabilities. It was a beautiful, bright, and relatively warm day.

The morning started at a balmy -5 Celsius, 15 degrees warmer than the Sault Ste. Marie ride two weeks prior. There were a handful of sledders who participated in both events who welcomed the milder weather.

Participants of all ages gathered at the Bruce Mines Arena for breakfast, rode to the Wharncliffe Community Hall for lunch, and returned to the arena to see whether their name had been drawn for one of the 30 prizes generously donated by local businesses.

“A great day riding superb trails all while raising money for families in need,” commented longtime Snowarama participant David Hay. “Pretty hard to beat!”

The Bruce Mines Sno Glyders Snowmobile Club put it many hours of hard work clearing the trails from downed trees after the storms at the beginning of the year. The event was postponed from its original January date to Feb. 22, which ended up being a wonderful day.

“With results like what we received from this event, it makes all the extra work our volunteers put into clearing the trail from the ice storms so worth it,” shared Leah Anne McMillan, vice president of the club.

Donations to Snowarama directly assist financing for vital mobility equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and communication devices and summer camp. Easter Seals owns and operates two fully accessible camp properties and is recognized as an industry leader in providing specialized camping experiences for kids with physical disabilities.
