Sault Soup Kitchen gets help from new neighbour

After Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 recently moved to a temporary home at The Marconi Cultural Event Centre while its new building is constructed on Great Northern Road, Branch officers stepped up to give some help to one of its neighbours, presenting a cheque for $1,000 to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen Community Centre on Wednesday to help feed the city’s hungry.

“Branch 25 recognizes that the need for feeding some of our citizens in Sault Ste. Marie is greater now than it has ever been, and organizations like the Soup Kitchen are hard pressed to take care of all who drop by for a meal. With winter coming, we can be sure of one thing - the need for food will grow,” wrote Branch 25 in a release.

Rudy Timmerman, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 public relations officer, Pierre Breckenridge, Branch 25 1st vice president and Helen Stewart, Branch 25 president visited the soup kitchen to present the cheque.

“The donation was very much appreciated by the staff who work so hard to keep hungry bellies full, and Branch 25 was glad to make the donation,” the release stated.
