Tuesday, July 11 was a special day for local veterans at the Metro Churchill Plaza grocery store.

Peter Disisto, Metro Churchill Plaza manager, joined by store employees, presented a cheque for $9,260 to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 officials.

The crew from Metro had burgers and other items for sale, with proceeds going to Branch 25’s Veterans Fund.

In turn, Wilma Oliver, Branch 25 president, presented Metro staff with a certificate of appreciation.

Helen Stewart of Branch 25 described the day as “wonderful,” with good weather and camaraderie, and the donation as “amazing.”

“The Branch thanks Peter and his staff for all that they have done for the veterans,” Stewart wrote in an email to SooToday.
