NEWS RELEASE

SAULT COLLEGE

Today, Sault College proudly accepted a generous donation from Algoma Insurance Brokers in support of the Waterfront and Tennis Centre. In recognition of this support, a student work room at the Centre will be named The William Horbatuk Student Work Room.

The generous support from this local community business has brought Sault College one step closer to reaching its goal of revitalizing the Waterfront and Tennis Centre.

“We are extremely grateful for the support received from Algoma Insurance Brokers,” said Dr. Ron Common, Sault College President. “Sault College is committed to developing a Centre that will not only benefit our students, but also our community as a whole. This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity from businesses such as Algoma Insurance Brokers. This support will create a lasting legacy for both our College and for Sault Ste. Marie residents,” he added.

The student room, which will be named the The William Horbatuk Student Work Room, is named after William Horbatuk, one of the original founders of Algoma Insurance Brokers.

He was instrumental in building the entity to what it is today. William had profound interest in serving Sault Ste. Marie and the related communities with respect to their insurance needs.

He was also a strong supporter of numerous community initiatives and causes. William is an excellent role model for young, energetic individuals within our community who are striving to reach their goals and dreams, adding to the significance of naming the student work room in his honour.

As James Horbatuk, President of Algoma Insurance Brokers Limited reflects, “a statement William often said to me, ‘whatever the human mind can conceive, it will eventually become a reality.’ He was a strong believer in creativity and the possibilities of human ingenuity.”

The Waterfront and Tennis Centre will support programming at our College, specifically the Natural Environment and Outdoor Studies programs, allowing for unique teaching and learning opportunities for our students. It will also provide seasonal access to waterfront and tennis activities for community youth and their families.

This revitalization will also include the construction of a new waterfront building and the renewal of eight tennis courts, which will be enjoyed by students and community members alike. The benefits of this project are all encompassing and will help Sault College attract and retain students as well as create employment opportunities within our community.

We’re close to reaching our fundraising goal, and are well on our way to offering our students and community an exciting new facility to learn and play!
