On June 25, Canadians coast-to-coast will cycle in the Canadian Mental Health Association’s annual Ride Don’t Hide to combat stigma and raise funds for 35 communities nationwide.

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario–Summer is coming and what better time to dust off our bikes, pull out the Lycra and spring into action as the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in the Sault today launches its annual Ride Don’t Hide fundraising campaign.

CMHA is issuing a call to cyclists and non-cyclists alike to join the movement that’s gearing up and gathering momentum across the country, from coast-to-coast.

On June 25, 2017, Canadians from all walks of life will join the sixth annual Ride Don’t Hide community bike ride in celebration and support of mental health. CMHA is expecting more than 10,000 cyclists to ride for mental health in 35 communities across Canada, including Sault Ste. Marie.

“Ride Don’t Hide is an opportunity to come together to fundraise as a community and say mental health is important to me, and it’s time to banish the stigma often associated with it,” says Annette Katajamaki, Executive Director, CMHA, Sault Ste. Marie.  “We are so thankful for the support from the community, and those who have shared their personal stories of why mental health is important to them.”

The Ride Don’t Hide movement began with Michael Schratter, a Vancouver school teacher living with bipolar disorder, who spent almost a year and a half cycling 40,000 km around the globe.

Armed with only his bike, a knapsack and the determination to realize his dream of raising awareness and empowering those who experience mental illness, his story inspired millions of people and raised $100,000 for CMHA.

The sixth annual Ride Don’t Hide community bike ride continues to inspire and aims to raise a record $1.5 million across Canada.

This will be Sault Ste. Marie’s third ride.  Riders will start at Bellevue Park and choose to Ride 5 KM or 25 KM along the city’s beautiful Hub Trail. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support CMHA Sault Ste. Marie.
