On July 13, reThink Green will be hosting a Lunch & Learn webinar called “Sustainability in Business: Opportunities in Sault Ste Marie”. This webinar will be an opportunity for Sault Ste Marie businesses, non-profits, and the broader public sector to learn more about the benefits of embracing sustainability and how the Green Economy North program can help make it happen.

The event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Zoom. Register here

Launched in 2016, Green Economy North is a membership-based program of reThink Green that provides businesses and organizations in Northeastern Ontario with tools to measure greenhouse gas emissions, resources to manage them, and recognition for their successes.

“We work directly with our members to realize the competitive advantage of becoming environmentally sustainable, helping them develop greenhouse gas inventories, produce sustainability action plans, access expertise, and make changes that strengthen their triple bottom line,” said Simon Blakeley, Program Director at reThink Green.

In December of 2020, the city councilors of Sault Ste Marie approved a community greenhouse gas reduction plan that has a goal of getting the city to net zero emissions by 2050.

“Green Economy North engaging businesses in our community will be a huge advantage for our city in achieving our net zero commitments,” said Emily Cormier, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Sault Ste Marie. “Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 will require action planning across all sectors. Working with businesses to support them in their efforts to reduce their emissions will be a vital step in that objective. I encourage local businesses to attend this webinar, and explore the considerable business opportunities that come with embracing sustainability.”
