NEWS RELEASE

*************************
United Way Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is happy to announce that Tampon Tuesday was an absolute success and that we are busy sorting the products for deliveries.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in celebration of International Women’s Week, we held a gathering to celebrate women and bring light to the struggles that poverty brings to menstruation.

This year we collected 531 boxes, totaling 13,541 individual products. With those donations we will be able to provide the supplies for 564 individual periods or for perspective, provide products for 56 women in poverty for a full year.

We would like to extend thanks to local businesses such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, all three local Metros and with a huge thank you to the Sault Ste. Marie and District Labour Council, United Food and Commercial Workers, Huron Superior Catholic Teachers, United Steelworkers District 6, United Steelworkers 9548, United Steelworkers 2724, and Ontario Public Service Employees Ontario.

Lastly, thank you to the community as a whole, for coming and attending the event and for the support they have shown for this great cause.

If you would like to learn more on how you or your organization can get involved or have any questions, please contact the United Way at 705-256-7476 ext. 206.
