New restaurant hosting online hiring event

Taj Indian Cuisine, in partnership with the Sault Community Career Centre, will be hosting an online hiring event from Wednesday, Oct. 7 until Thursday, Oct. 15, for a mix of full-time and part-time positions.  

The Taj is a new restaurant opening this month at 420 Great Northern Rd. A chef trained in India, who worked in New York and Shanghai, will be sharing his culinary experience and cooking style with Sault Ste. Marie. 

From dosa to traditional Indian breads and biryanis, tandoori sizzlers and curries, owners Das and Sharmila Kumar promise to give guests an authentic taste of their home country. With fresh ingredients, exotic flavours, and friendly service, the Taj will be a unique experience like no other. 

“Making this restaurant a reality has been important to our community,” says Das Kumar, owner of The Taj.  “We hope that every guest feels the love and dedication we’ve put into this passion project.”    

Das and Sharmila are looking for enthusiastic and reliable team members to fill the following positions:

  • Restaurant Supervisor with a minimum of two-three years’ restaurant management experience, Smart Serve certification, Point of Sale experience, and extensive knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and mixology.  Must have a flexible schedule.
  • Servers & Bartenders (full-time and part-time) with minimum one-year restaurant experience, Smart Serve certification, and Point of Sale experience.  Knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and mixology an asset.  Must be available afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Line Cooks (full-time and part-time) with minimum one-year kitchen experience and Safe Food Handler certification.  Must be able to lift up to 50Ibs, and be available evenings and weekends.
  • Dishwashers (part-time) with Safe Food Handler certification.  Must be able to lift up to 50Ibs, and be available evenings and weekends.
