NEWS RELEASE
LEGION HAP KI DO CLUB
****************************
On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Legion Hap Ki Do Club will host a Kickathon to raise much needed funds for our local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Coach Rudy W. Timmerman and instructors Steve Jensen as well as Kevin Lamour have already pledged to do 1,000 kicks, and hopefully more instructors and black belts will join us in our efforts to keep Branch 25 alive and well. Due to a work-related accident back in 1983, Coach Timmerman is no longer able to kick. But, even at age 80, he will do 1,000 punches instead.

The COVID-19 restrictions have severely impacted the income of Legion branches across the nation, and many are faced with the reality that they will permanently close. Our local branch is determined to remain viable, because our veterans and the community of Sault Ste. Marie rely on us to provide services that our government simply can not replace… they simply do not have the volunteer base that make Legion branches vital to our communities.

At the Legion Hap Ki Do Club, we teach much more than just punching and kicking, and our students are taught the value of community service by actively participating in volunteering for various projects that benefit our community. The coach and instructors of the Legion Hap Ki Do Club lead by example, and we challenge our students to step up to the plate and participate with us.

Volunteers are a vital part of a well-functioning community, and supporting their efforts will strengthen their resolve to step up to the plate and make a difference. When one of our students, or a student from our sister club KJMS, stops by, please support their efforts to be a productive citizen.

We cordially invite all of GM Timmerman’s students, present and past, to join us on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Legion Hall. Come kick with us to keep your Legion Hall open so the volunteers of the Legion can continue to provide essential services to our veterans and the community.

Check the Legion Hap Ki Do page on Facebook for updates and details.
