The Sault Ste. Marie KOA is now a KOA Holiday, one of three new descriptive brands created to help campers select the right campground for their camping needs.

“”This is our seventh season here, although the campground itself has been here since 1974”, says Joan Richard, who owns the campground alongside her husband, Bill. “We've been campers for 25 years, and everything we do is about taking care of our guests. The Holiday brand reflects what sets us apart”.

KOA Holiday campgrounds are wonderful base camps for exploring the area or just a fun place to stay with lots of activities. The KOA Holiday parks have amenities and services to make stays memorable, whether it's a longer stay or just overnight. Each KOA Holiday features full-service RV Sites and KOA Deluxe Cabins with washrooms.

“We've added two Deluxe Cabins as well a total of eight Patio RV Sites for RVs”, Joan says. “We've taken a number of sites and combined them to make them extra-long so that people in 45-foot motor homes with cars or cargo trailers behind them can pull in without having to disconnect.”

Premium Tent Sites were added to the campground last year, and according to Joan they've been so popular that they are adding five more this year. “We see people heading east and heading west”, she says. “When they're returning on their second visit, they'll always ask for a Premium Tent Site if they got to stay in one the first time. They love them.” she added.

Joan says that they have a good mix of guests on their campground, and offer a variety of services to accommodate them.

That includes a pool, children's playground, miniature golf and bike rentals for families who may be car camping as well as an RV wash and 'Weigh It' scales which help to promote RV safety. They are also, to say the least, a very dog-friendly KOA.

“I was a dog groomer before we moved here, so we created a self-serve dog salon so our guests could wash their dogs”, Joan says. “All of the equipment is professional quality. We also have a 'Kamp K9' for dogs, and for those guests who have sports dogs, we have competition equipment and an agility field. We have a number of people from our local area come out to work with their dogs, and our guests love to take their lawn chairs out near the field and watch the dogs train.”

The Sault Ste. Marie KOA Holiday is one of 490 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the Kampgrounds of America system in Canada and the U.S.

Other new KOA brands include KOA Journeys, convenient locations after a long day on the road that feature long pull-through sites and easy after-hours check in; and KOA Resorts, which include an abundance of activities led by dedicated recreation staff, on-site food service, group meeting space and much more.

Located just off Highway 501 Fifth Line East, the Sault Ste. Marie KOA Holiday is open May 1 through October 9. The campground was awarded the 2016 KOA Founder's Award for achieving world-class service scores and the 2016 KOA President’s Award for meeting exceptional quality standards.

In 2015, they were named Campground of the Year for Medium-Sized Campgrounds by Camping in Ontario, a private campground association, and they were selected as the 2013 Sault Ste. Marie Tourism Business of the Year.

Kampgrounds of America is celebrating its 54th Anniversary in 2016. KOA, the world’s largest network of family-friendly campgrounds, was born on the banks of the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana in 1962.
