Amelia Spacek, a grade 12 soon-to-graduate from École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie), has always demonstrated a positive attitude and open-mindedness towards her learning and towards everyone who surrounds her. She stood out throughout her high school years by her academic excellence along with her active participation in her school and in the community.

Amelia most recently was awarded the Loran Scholarship, a prestigious award presented to some 30 young Canadian leaders who demonstrate integrity, courage, leadership, community involvement, determination and self-reliance. These characteristics describe Amelia admirably.

Known for her innovative spirit, this student demonstrated her resourcefulness as Prime Minister of her school's parliament. Amelia also represented with great success École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault as well as the community of Sault Ste. Marie during her participation in various activities such as volleyball, basketball, hockey and robotics.

Passionate about robotics, Amelia held a key role as team captain over the past few years in addition to serving as volunteer for the Professional Engineers of Ontario and leading STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) outreach events. Amelia plays several musical instruments and has performed in palliative care homes in Sault Ste. Marie. We wish her the very best in her engineering studies next year.
