The Algoma Conservatory of Music and the LOFT at Algoma Conservatory, as part of the Summer Moon Festival, proudly present the Building Your Career in The New Music Business Workshop on Friday Sept. 17, 2021 from 4-6 p.m. at the LOFT (75 Huron St).

Ryan Hefford of The Management Trust in Toronto will lead participants through an exploration of various revenue streams and music industry functions before diving into a deeper guided discussion on imaging and artistry built for a digital world.

Discussion will be encouraged throughout and the workshop will be highly participatory. Ryan is the Artist Manager in charge of development, as well as Director of Touring and Logistics at The Management Trust (the firm known for Canadian rock gold standards The Tragically Hip – as well as an upcoming roster of R&B, folk, and visual artists).

In addition, he is an honours graduate of the Harris Institute’s Arts Management Program, where he has taught since 2018. Independently, and through The Management Trust, Ryan provides arts management and consulting services to an array of clients.

They include musicians, festival talent buyers, visual artists, muralists, and producers.

As part of the workshop 12 participants will be selected for The Music Mentor Program which will pair local music leaders with established music industry colleagues to level-up their professional skills and careers.

  • Mentors include: Elle Dhanani – Independent / The Tragically Hip
  • Pierre Joannard Lardant – Sub Management Group
  • Andrea Aguilar - Six Shooter Records
  • Jermayne Clayton - Awesome Productions & Management
